Dream Theater was band that has typical music progressive metal foremost now. They came from Boston, Massachusetts. Dream Theater formed in September 1985, when guitarist John Petrucci and bassist John Myung formed a band to passing their vacant time when school in Berklee College of Music in Boston. Afterwards, they meet with drum player, Mike Portnoy in one of exercise room in Berklee, and after two days negotiations their success to ask mike Portnoy to joined with him. Next, three of them want to fill two empty of space in this band, and Petrucci asked with friend of band is Kevin Moore to be keyboardist. He agreed, and also when Chris Collins asked to be vocal, then this band has complete.
With five members, they make decision to give this band with named Majesty. This name create from listen Rush in Berklee Performance Center with Boom Box, and Portnoy said that end from this song (Bastille Day) heard really ‘Majestic’. At this time they decided name of Majesty that good for this band. But in 1986 were filled with various concerts around New York City, and during at this time they recorded demo album with title The Majesty Demos.
In November 1986, after a few months of writing and performing together, Chris Collins left the band due to creative differences. After a year trying to find a replacement, Charlie Dominci (Singer in Dominci Band) who was far older and more experienced than anyone else in the band. With the stability of Dominci appointment brought to Majesty, they began to increase the number of show in the New York City. Shortly after hiring Dominci, a Las Vegas group also named Majesty. Various possibilities were proposed and tested, among them Glesser, M1 and Magus, but all of them was reject until Portnoy father suggested the name with Dream Theater, from name of movies house in Monterey, California.
Dream Theater ha released 9 albums studio until now. When Dream and Day Unite (1989), Image and Word (1992), Awake (1994), falling into infinity (1997), Metropolis Pt.2: Scenes From a Memory (1999), Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence (2002), Train of Thought (2003), Octavarium (2005), Systimatic Chaos (2007).
